Landslides, heavy rains at various places in Himachal claim 22 lives

While Nine people died in a Shiva Temple collapse at Summer Hill, Shimla, a cloudburst at Jadon village in Kandaghat, Solan, claimed seven lives, even as landslides, and floods caused by three days of rain, led to the death of six persons in Mandi district.  

Shimla: Twenty-Two people have died in rain related calamities at various places in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, July 14, a special report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says 

While Nine people died in a Shiva Temple collapse at Summer Hill, Shimla, a cloudburst at Jadon village in Kandaghat,Solan, claimed seven lives, even as  landslides, and floods caused by three days of rain, led to the death of six persons in Mandi district.  

According to reports coming in there are still many people trapped under the debris of the Shiva Temple collapse on Summer Hill. 

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu walked to Summer Hill to personally  supervise rescue operation is on.

Cloudburst washes away 2 houses and a cowshed in Solan

According to a report by Ambika Sharma, Seven people were killed when two houses and a cowshed were washed away following the cloudburst. Rescue teams are finding it difficult to reach the spot. Two rescued people, a man and his daughter, were taken to a safer place.

The deceased have been identified as Harnam (38), Kamal Kishore (35), Hemlata (34), Rahul (14), Neha (12), Golu (8) and Raksha (12).

Mandi landslides claim 6 lives in Mandi

Reporting on the Mandi lanslides, Dipender Manta  reports that six people have died in Mandi district so far due to rain disaster at various places. 

The death toll might increase further, said DC Arindam Chaudhary.

Heavy rain for the past three days has led to death and destruction in Mandi district, where several villages at Balh valley came under water and a few houses were damaged.

Due to landslides, two houses and a cowshed were damaged at Majhvar village, where two people are said to be missing.

A flash flood occurred between 6 Miles and 7 Miles on the Chandigarh-Manali highway, where a few vehicles were washed away. Due to threat to the nearby houses in the area, around 70 people were stranded. But because of  road blockade on both sides, locals are finding it difficult to move to safer places.

Following frequent landslides, the district administration is finding it difficult to reach these areas.

The Chandigarh-Manali highway has been shut for traffic between Mandi and Kullu since Friday, while alternative routes between Mandi and Kullu were also blocked due to landslides on Monday.
