In a bizarre case, an NRI was threatened by a 28-year-old man who asked for money to stop the circulation of her alleged obscene videos on social media. The police have arrested Gagandeep Singh, a resident of Barnala, in this connection, said a report in the Times of India.
According to the report, the woman who is settled in Canada met Gagandeep on Facebook. They became friends, and when she came to India, she met him. Gagandeep took some obscene pictures of her secretly and started asking for ransom; otherwise circulate them on social media, the victim alleged.
The NRI woman filed an online complaint from Canada. The police took up the matter, registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested him when he came to the police station
The accused allegedly started blackmailing the NRI woman after she returned to Canada and asked for money. He set a demand of INR 5 lakhs to avoid the picture going to social media. Initially, she sent some money to him, but he started asking for more.
Realising that this was not going to end, she filed an online complaint from Canada. The police took up the matter, and registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police asked Gagandeep to join the investigation and arrested him when he came to the police station.
The investigation is going on in the case.
