Man caught with Rs 11cr cocaine in stomach

The capsules were extracted by hospitalising the man for the purpose, and then it was confirmed that the capsules contained cocaine

A 30-year-old ‘Health visa holder’ who arrived from an African country ostensibly for kidney treatment was caught at Bengaluru airport with 1.3 kg of cocaine capsules worth Rs 11 cr in his stomach.

This was revealed in an investigation by the police and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

Details about him, including his name and nationality, are not revealed yet, as that he may be part of a large drug smuggling network is suspected. He was supposed to deliver the smuggled cocaine through an associate coming to meet him at the hotel where he would check-in.

Based on a tip-off, the Bengaluru unit of the DRI at Kemepegowda International Airport intercepted him. Initially, a check of his luggage revealed nothing. But DRI officials got a medical scan carried out on the suspect and found a large quantity of capsules in his stomach.

 

Senior DRI officer told reporters that that they were profiling flyers who arrived on a particular flight from West Asia, and that the suspect was on the same flight

 

The DRI  had credible information about the culprit.

The arrested man claimed that he was on a health visa to get treatment for a kidney ailment. The Kempegowda International Airport police have registered a case in the matter.
