OCI and NRI candidates must complete eligibility checks before choice filling to access NRI and Unreserved seats
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has made document verification compulsory for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates seeking admission under the NRI quota through NEET UG counselling 2026.
In a notification dated August 6, the MCC said candidates claiming NRI eligibility must have their documents verified by its NRI Document Verification Team before taking part in the choice-filling process. The move is intended to establish eligibility before candidates select medical and dental seats.
Under the revised process, candidates planning to apply for NRI quota seats must first register for MCC counselling and select “Yes” when asked whether they want to apply for NRI quota seats. They must then submit the required documents for scrutiny by the designated verification team.
Only candidates whose NRI status is successfully verified will be able to access NRI quota seats during choice filling. The MCC has also clarified that, after successful verification, eligible applicants will be able to see both NRI quota and Indian Unreserved (UR) seats on the counselling portal.
The committee has advised candidates to complete the verification process well before choice filling begins. Pending verification could affect a candidate’s ability to access NRI quota options when the choice-filling window opens.

The latest requirement adds an important verification stage for overseas Indian families seeking medical admission in India and makes early preparation of supporting documents essential for NEET UG counselling 2026.
