McDonald’s Canada responds to Indian, vegetarian menu options

“We love it when our guests care enough to tell us about their McDonald’s favourites here in Canada and from around the world,” a spokesperson told Yahoo News Canada in an email. “We are committed to offering a variety of menu choices in our restaurants and continue to listen to our guests to understand their needs, changing trends and evolving tastes.”

A petition to get some McDonald’s India vegetarian menu items on the menu in Brampton, Ontario is currently being circulated online. The appeal was launched on Change.org two years ago by Anuj Patel, but is currently gaining steam after getting a bit of media attention. It’s aiming to bring more vegetarian options to the menu in Brampton, where 33 percent of the population is Indian.

Pravasi Samwad readers must have noticed the newsitem published earlier mentioning the online petition.

“McDonald’s Canada has very limited options for vegetarians as compared to McDonald’s India,” the petition reads. “There are (a) variety of options that we would love to be introduced in Canadian McDonald’s menu which would cater to the vast majority of vegetarian population residing in Brampton.”

The items the petition is suggesting the Canadian menu acquire are the McAloo Tikki, a crispy potato patty burger, the McSpicy Paneer Burger, which involves a deep-fried cheese patty, the self-explanatory McVeggie Burger, Piri-piri fries, which are fries shaken up with a concoction of spices and the Veg Pizza McPuff, a savoury pocket stuffed with veggie and tomato sauce. Included on the list is the McSpicy Chicken burger, which isn’t vegetarian.

So far the petition has more than 3200 signatures of the 5000 goal.

McDonald’s Canada has not committed yet to adding the items to the menu, but appreciated the enthusiasm.
