Efficient visa processing for Indian applicants seeking entry into the United States has been reinstated, as the US Consulate General in Mumbai proudly announces the elimination of visa backlogs caused by the disruptive Covid-19 pandemic. The recent announcement states that immigrant visa interview appointments can now be scheduled within the standard timeframe, signifying a remarkable achievement in restoring normalcy to the visa application process.

In the wake of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the waiting period for immigrant visa candidates had ballooned to an unsettling duration of over two years. However, a significant breakthrough has been achieved, permitting applicants with current immigrant petitions – indicating the availability of visas and their readiness to secure appointments – to arrange their interviews within the customary processing timeline. This encouraging development is anticipated to facilitate the much-awaited reunification of families across the United States, as emphasized in a press release disseminated by the Consulate General.

Ambassador Garcetti reiterates the commitment to further enhance visa operations and bolster the consulate’s team, continuing to invest in their expansion and fortification

Highlighted in the press release is the ongoing processing of a notable volume of Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) applications, which currently surpasses 900,000. This figure is on the verge of crossing the significant threshold of one million visas in the near future.

Preceding this, Eric Garcetti, the United States Ambassador to India, had aspired to achieve the remarkable milestone of processing a minimum of one million visas throughout the year 2023. Notably, he also communicated a remarkable reduction of more than 50 percent in the wait duration for initial tourist visa interviews. Ambassador Garcetti reiterates the commitment to further enhance visa operations and bolster the consulate’s team, continuing to invest in their expansion and fortification.
