Nita Ambani, the Founder Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, is on a mission to globalize the concept of ‘Swadeshi,’ a term that encapsulates the essence of indigenous Indian culture and craftsmanship. In a recent conversation with CNBC, she expressed her desire for ‘Swadeshi’ to receive international recognition and outlined her foundation’s efforts in that direction.

Ambani envisions her legacy as one that centers around creating transformative institutions. Among these, she mentioned the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), Dhirubhai Ambani International School, the Reliance Foundation hospital, and the Mumbai Indians. She believes that ‘Swadeshi’ deserves global acclaim and is actively working to make it a reality. Her vision involves taking ‘Swadeshi’ to the global stage and establishing digital skilling platforms to empower artisans and ensure their sustainable livelihoods.

The Reliance Foundation, under Nita Ambani’s leadership, has made a substantial impact on the lives of 70 million people in India and has a presence in every state of the country. Ambani believes that a nation’s development hinges on women’s empowerment, the well-being of children, and transformation through sports. She emphasized her commitment to women’s empowerment and mentioned a partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation aimed at providing employment opportunities to one million women, ensuring they earn an income of at least Rs one lakh.

Reflecting on her experience at the White House state dinner hosted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi by US President Joe Biden, Nita Ambani praised the achievements of the Indian diaspora. She highlighted their contributions to fields such as NASA, media, science, and technology, expressing pride in their global success and the enthusiasm they have for their Indian heritage.

In terms of her legacy, Nita Ambani aspires to be remembered for creating institutions that nurture and impart knowledge to the youth, leaving a lasting impact on society and culture

Nita Ambani, who also serves as the CEO of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), shared the inspiration behind the cultural center. Her journey began at the age of six when she started learning Bharatnatyam. During a visit to Australia for the Cricket World Cup, she was inspired by the Sydney Opera House and wondered why India couldn’t have a similar cultural landmark. This idea eventually led to the creation of NMACC, which she considers a tribute to emerging artists. It took a decade to turn this vision into reality.

Furthermore, Nita Ambani expressed her belief that India is fully prepared to host the 2036 Olympics. As a member of the Indian Olympic Committee, she is enthusiastic about the idea, emphasizing that India’s 1.4 billion people cannot be ignored, and she feels the country is more than ready to embrace this prestigious sporting event.

In terms of her legacy, Nita Ambani aspires to be remembered for creating institutions that nurture and impart knowledge to the youth, leaving a lasting impact on society and culture.
