PM inaugurates India’s biggest Drone Festival

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s biggest Drone Festival – Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022 – at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Friday (May 27, 2022).

The prime minister said, the enthusiasm surrounding drone technology in India indicated that it could soon become an “emerging sector of employment generation in India.”

The event is termed as the country’s ‘biggest drone festival’. “This forum brings together key stakeholders including StartUps with the aim of increasing India’s presence in the sector. I’d urge all those interested in tech and innovation to watch the programme,” PM Modi tweeted one day before the launch of the programme.

The prime minister spoke about how the PM Swamitva Yojana has been digitally mapping villages across the country for the first time, while highlighting the government initiatives in the drone space.

The PM interacted with kisan drone pilots, which witnessed open-air drone demonstrations and interact with startups in the drone exhibition centre.

More than 70 exhibitors displayed various use cases of drones at the exhibition. Mahotsav will also witness a virtual award of drone pilot certificates, product launches, panel discussions, flying demonstrations, display of a ‘Made in India Drone Taxi’ prototype, among others.
