During his recent visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s growing role on the global stage, focusing on international cooperation, sustainable development, and stronger bilateral relations, reported livemint.com.
His visit culminated in a series of high-level engagements, notably addressing the Summit of the Future (SOTF) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where he reiterated India’s commitment to the concept of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
At the Summit, Michele Griffin, director of the SOTF, acknowledged India’s pivotal role in pushing for reforms within international institutions, particularly those aimed at addressing the needs of the global south. “India is a major voice on the world stage and of the global south,” Griffin said. She added that India’s leadership is crucial in ensuring that international cooperation more effectively serves marginalized nations, including advocating for reforms in the UN Security Council and the global financial system.
Modi’s arrival in Philadelphia was met with enthusiasm by the Indian community, who welcomed him with cultural dance performances. His visit also includes a planned meeting with US presidential candidate Donald Trump ahead of the upcoming US elections in November, showcasing India’s strategic importance in global political dialogue
In a vibrant address to the Indian diaspora at New York’s Nassau Coliseum, PM Modi praised the Indian community, referring to them as India’s “strong brand ambassadors” on the international stage. He outlined his vision for India’s future, setting ambitious goals for his third term, including elevating India to developed nation status. Modi stressed that India’s focus is not on achieving global supremacy, but on fostering cooperation that benefits global prosperity.
During the visit, PM Modi met with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Quad Summit, deepening ties between the two nations. Both leaders discussed critical global issues and laid the groundwork for future collaborations, with India set to host the next Quad Leaders’ Summit in 2025. Additionally, Mumbai is being considered as the venue for a Quad Regional Ports and Transportation Conference the same year, signaling stronger regional connectivity.
