Dr. Ram Niwas, fondly known as Hla Tun in Myanmar, is a distinguished member of the Indian diaspora and a shining exemplar of cultural diplomacy and educational transformation. Recognized for his pioneering efforts, Dr. Niwas was honored with the 2025 Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA), the highest accolade bestowed by the Government of India on overseas Indians. Hailing from the culturally rich state of Rajasthan, India, Dr. Ram Niwas’s journey is deeply rooted in traditional Indian values. The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, presented during the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention held from January 8 to 10, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, celebrates the extraordinary achievements of Indians abroad.

President of India, Droupadi Murmu, conferred the award during the event’s Valedictory Session, a moment that symbolized the enduring bond between India and its diaspora.

Dr. Niwas was among 27 esteemed individuals and organizations recognized for their contributions across various domains, including education, community service, science, medicine, business, and public affairs.

Dr. Ram Niwas’s work transcends teaching. By introducing Sanskrit to monks and communities in Myanmar, he has played a pivotal role in cultural preservation and exchange.
