Two flights were rescheduled after an aircraft was grounded, affecting around 200 passengers at Indira Gandhi International Airport
Two Dubai-bound SpiceJet flights from Delhi faced repeated delays, prompting passenger protests at Indira Gandhi International Airport and raising concerns over travel disruptions.
Flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, scheduled to leave Delhi for Dubai on Monday, were rescheduled several times during the day. The disruption continued into Tuesday, with passengers seeking clarity over their departure arrangements.
SpiceJet attributed the delays to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft. The airline said it was arranging alternative flights for affected passengers and working to reduce the inconvenience.
“SpiceJet flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, operating from Delhi to Dubai, have been delayed due to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
The airline added that alternate flights were being arranged to accommodate passengers affected by the disruption
Flights rescheduled for Tuesday
According to information reported by Hindustan Times, both flights were expected to depart from Delhi’s IGI Airport on Tuesday evening.
Flight SG 5111 began boarding passengers and was scheduled to leave at 1pm, while SG 5105 was expected to depart at 4pm.
The revised timings followed multiple changes to the original schedule, leaving passengers waiting for updates on their travel plans.
Around 200 passengers affected
News agency PTI, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that around 200 passengers were impacted by the delays.
Passengers reportedly staged protests at several locations inside Terminal 3 from late Monday evening. A video circulating on social media showed passengers holding a sit-in at the airport, although Hindustan Times said it could not independently verify the footage.
The disruption also prompted discussions between airport officials and SpiceJet executives as efforts continued to address the situation.
The airline has not publicly disclosed further details about the grounded aircraft or provided a specific explanation for the operational issue beyond its statement.
