Immigration New Zealand has issued a fresh advisory to international students, asking them to apply for their student visas at least three months ahead of their planned travel date. The advisory comes as visa processing volumes rise between May and August, the department’s peak season, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Students who delay submissions risk longer wait times or rejection due to incomplete applications, warns Immigration New Zealand.
In its official notification released Thursday, the immigration authority said, “Applying for your visa at least 3 months before your intended travel date gives you the best chance to have a decision made in time for your study. The processing of student visas is a priority for us, particularly as we get closer to peak times.”
The advisory highlights that student visa applications surge annually between May and August, leading to extended processing timelines. Immigration New Zealand noted that early applications would help avoid delays and improve the chances of getting a timely decision.
Incomplete applications may be declined without warning during peak season, officials caution.
Due to the anticipated volume, the department said it will not be able to follow up on missing documentation. “If the missing information is key to the assessment, then your application may be declined,” the notice reads.
International students planning to study in New Zealand are therefore encouraged to prepare all necessary documents and submit their applications well in advance to ensure a smooth transition.
