Supreme Court order paves way for NEET-UG results

By staying the Bombay High Court order which had directed the agency to hold the exam again for two undergraduate medical aspirants, the Supreme Court of India has now asked National Testing Agency to announce the result of National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination – Under Graduate (NEET UG), a compulsory entrance exam for admission in medical courses in India like MBBS, BDS, BHMS.

While around 16 lakh students waited, Bombay High Court directed NTA to withhold the results, saying that the NEET exam should be held again by NTA for two students, Vaishanavi Bhopali and Abhishek Shivaji, who were handed question papers and answer sheets with wrong serial numbers. The Supreme Court, however, observed that results cannot be put on hold for two students.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court bench of Justices LN Rao, Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai, that in all six students faced the same problem and only these two surprisingly could not finish the paper. The lawyer for the petitioners told the Supreme Court that the other four students did not realize that even if they filled the answers, it would be judged wrongly. The Supreme Court said there are 16 lakh students waiting for the results, and it will have to be seen what can be done for these two students. The matter will be heard next after Diwali.
