In a move to protect the interests and assets of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced the establishment of an Overseas Board during a recent meeting organized by TPCC NRI Cell.
This board, to be named ‘Telangana Gulf and Other Overseas Board,’ aims to provide support to NRIs migrating to countries such as the USA, while also extending assistance to their elderly parents for a nominal fee.
Revanth Reddy highlighted the government’s plans to set up this board at Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Praja Bhavan, emphasizing the need to address the welfare concerns of overseas migrant laborers.
Telangana aims to have these policies in place by September 17, with the appointment of a senior IAS officer to lead the Overseas Board, ensuring effective management of issues concerning NRIs at all levels
Drawing from experiences in foreign affairs management, particularly from the tenure of Chief Minister’s Secretary V Sheshadri, who served in both Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi’s administrations, Telangana plans to implement policies inspired by successful models in states like Kerala and countries like the Philippines.
The proposed policies include comprehensive registration of migrant workers, provision of assistance and training programs, licensing of agents, provision of life insurance, and protection of their assets.
