“GPCL T20 fulfils a need that exists,” says Power Sportz founder Kanthi D Suresh

The organizers of Global Power Cricket League (GPCL) are planning to take the tournament outside India from next year. Though the GPCL is still in its early days, the T20 tournament has created quite a response from fans with action-packed matches.
Several top players from across the world showcased their talent in a one-of-a-kind tournament. Among the international stars, the likes of Ian Bell, Munaf Patel, Callum Ferguson, Kirk Edwards, Shaminda Eranga, and Robert Frylinck featured in the GPCL T20. Following the GPCL regulations, the eight participating teams also fielded players of Indian origin in their playing XI while also maintaining an average of 25. As a result, the organizers’ main objective of catering to the Indian diaspora global youth cricketers was fulfilled.
It was due to the GPCL that Diaspora youngsters were able to display their T20 skills in front of a capacity crowd in Delhi’s Yamuna Sports Complex Cricket Ground.
Adil Ali, Akshay Homraj, Amrit Basra, Umang Sharma, Gurbaj Singh, Waseem Rahman, Seth Rajkumar, Aditya Adey were some of the notable Indian diaspora global youth cricketers appearing in the GPCL T20. They considered it a lucky break and their biggest takeaway from the GPCL was getting a chance to play in India under floodlights against teams from different countries.
The organizer and official broadcaster of GPCL T20, Power Sportz, was justifiably proud of its hard work and dedication which was apparent from the appreciation from players and fans. Speaking to Circle of Cricket, Kanthi D Suresh, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Power Sportz, said, “The first requirement of any business is to fulfil a need that exists and we have done it through GPCL Global Power Cricket League.” She added, that the Global Power Cricket League was here to stay and they were planning to take it outside India in the subsequent seasons.“We are looking to make it an annual affair, and are also planning to organize it in Middle East, USA, Canada, UK, and South Africa from next year onwards,” she stated.
Talking about the GPCL T20, eight participating teams were divided into two groups. Indian Sapphires, English Reds, Scottish Mulberries, and American Indigos were in Pool A while Australian Golds, South African Emeralds, Sri Lankan Violets, and Irish Olives were part of Pool B. Every team played three matches in the group stage before the top two teams from each group moved to the semi-final, where the toppers of each pool took on the second-placed side of the other pool.
