Ricky Gill, Saurabh Sharma, and Kush Desai appointed to key roles in Trump administration
Three Indian Americans have been appointed to significant positions in former US President Donald Trump’s administration, marking an important development for the community. Ricky Gill will serve as Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council (NSC), Saurabh Sharma will join the Presidential Personnel Office, and Kush Desai has been named Deputy Press Secretary in the White House communications team, reported siasat.com.
Gill, an attorney, previously served as NSC Director for Europe and Russian Affairs in Trump’s first term. He also worked as a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations at the State Department from 2017 to 2020. Afterward, he became Principal and General Counsel at Gill Capital Group and a Policy Adviser at TC Energy
Sharma, originally from Bengaluru, is the co-founder and President of American Moment, a conservative organization in Washington, DC. He holds a biochemistry degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he became the youngest-ever state chairman of Young Conservatives of Texas.
Desai, a Dartmouth College graduate and former journalist, played a key role in Trump’s 2024 campaign as Director of Communications for Pennsylvania and Deputy Director of Communications for battleground states under the Republican National Committee.
While the number of Indian Americans in the Trump administration remains lower compared to President Joe Biden’s team, these new appointments highlight the growing influence of the Indian American community in US politics.
