PM Modi to visit the US as leaders reaffirm strategic partnership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with US President Donald Trump on Monday, pledging to work together for global peace, prosperity, and security.
Their conversation comes amid India’s concerns over Trump’s proposed tariff hikes and stricter immigration policies.
PM Modi emphasized the commitment of both nations to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership in his post on X, marking his first conversation with Trump since his second-term inauguration on January 20 , reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Trade and security take center stage in US-India talks
According to the White House, Trump urged India to increase its procurement of American-made security equipment and work toward a fair bilateral trade relationship.
The leaders also discussed Modi’s upcoming visit to the White House reinforcing the deepening strategic and economic ties between the two nations.
Modi highlighted the significance of US-India collaboration in key areas such as technology, defense, investment, and energy.
They also exchanged views on global issues including the situations in West Asia and Ukraine.
The call precedes a possible meeting between Modi and Trump at the AI Summit in France next month.
Discussions are also underway for Modi’s official visit to the US before Trump’s scheduled trip to India later this year for the Quad Summit.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to address concerns over US visa delays and irregular migration from India.
The Indian government is working diplomatically to verify the origin of 18000 illegal migrants identified for deportation by US authorities while ensuring a cooperative approach to immigration issues
