Chicago: Breaking gender stereotypes, two men in Chicago recently donned beautiful sarees at their friend’s wedding, an ANI report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says.

Usually at a typically traditional Indian wedding, the focus at such an event is always the bride – her bridal attire and make-up and how it enhances that special, once-in-a- lifetime look,  from being breathtakingly beautiful to incredibly coy.

But not at this wedding. Here the Best Men of the Groom who completely stole the show when they turned up wearing fabulous  and colourful South Indian silk sarees, complete to  the hilt with ‘bindis’ in place. Needless to say it was a knockout and hilarious  surprise for the Indian bridegroom, and for all the guests gathered there.

The groom’s best men made their entrance alongside the bride as he stood looking the other way, waiting for his bride’s first look. But when he turned, expecting to  see his future wife, he burst out in laughter after he saw his two ‘besties’ standing there in saris.

Once he  had recovered from the iinitial jolt of this very unusual surprise, the groom did not waste any time and rushed to hug his friends with the biggest smile on his face, a signal to the Best Men that the prank was a total success and well taken by everybody..

Weddings are a big deal in India. It seems that the country has reeled in even the West with its big-fat wedding agenda. A new viral video of an Indian groom from the streets of Chicago has the Internet in splits.

An internet user noted how the Best Men acted shy and feminine in order to fully immerse themselves in the role: “They are shy like some women in saree too,” while another added, “Extremely beautiful and unique… The original posters captioned the adorable clip, “Just a typical wedding morning with the groom’s 2 best men walking down Michigan Ave in sarees.”
