In a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and facilitating increased bilateral cooperation, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has inaugurated a new consulate office in Hyderabad, marking its fourth diplomatic mission in India. The inauguration ceremony, held recently, saw the participation of notable dignitaries including India’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs V. Muraleedharan and his Emirati counterpart Ali Al-Sayegh.

This new consulate in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state, stands as the second such office established by the UAE in southern India. Complementing the existing missions in Delhi, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram, the consulate is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations.

Minister Muraleedharan expressed confidence in the consulate’s potential to bolster the India-UAE trade and investment landscape, further emphasizing its role in fostering stronger people-to-people ties. This sentiment echoes the sentiments of various stakeholders who have long awaited such a development.

The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which came into effect in May of the preceding year, has served as a significant catalyst in elevating relations between India and the UAE, setting the stage for expanded collaboration across various sectors.

He underscored the consulate’s role in enhancing people-to-people contact and serving as a vital resource for the Indian diaspora in the region.

The establishment of the consulate addresses the longstanding advocacy from groups such as the Hyderabad-based Emigrants Welfare Forum, which has championed the need for such a mission to facilitate the seamless travel of hundreds of thousands of Indians to the UAE from the region.

Political analyst Mir Ayoob Khan highlighted the cultural and economic ties between the UAE and Hyderabad, emphasizing the city’s status as an IT hub and its robust business links with the Gulf nation.
