Uttar Pradesh cabinet gives nod to policy on operations of airstrips

Under this policy, flying clubs and academies selected by the Civil Aviation Department in 13 airstrips in the state will be allowed to conduct training programmes at hangars and buildings

After hectic deliberations, the crucial policy on operations of airstrips was finally approved by the Uttar Pradesh cabinet.  Under this policy, flying clubs and academies selected by the Civil Aviation Department in 13 airstrips in the state will be allowed to conduct training programmes at hangars and buildings, according to an official spokesperson.

The policy was approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The 13 airstrips are in Akbarpur (Ambedkar Nagar district), Andhau (Ghazipur), Shravasti, Farrukhabad, Dhanipur (Aligarh), Amhat (Sultanpur), Myorpur (Sonbhadra), Saifai (Etawah), Palia (Kheri), Jhansi, Rasulabad (Kanpur Dehat), Azamgarh and Chitrakoot. The spokesman said at present, there are 17 airstrips in Uttar Pradesh and that under a policy framed in 2007, 12 of these were allowed to function.

The earlier plan was floated in 2007 and since then the civil aviation sector has undergone a lot of changes, hence necessitating a new policy.

The minister said 56 more airports would be added in the country in next 15 months as the government wanted everyone to experience air travel

According to an earlier report, UP is to get nine new airports in 15 months. Addressing the UP Investors’ Summit, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Thursday said Uttar Pradesh would get nine more airports in next 15 months.

, “Nine more operational airports will come up in Aligarh, Azamgarh, Bareilly, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Moradabad, Myurpur (Sonbhadra), Allahabad and Shravasti in 15 months,” Raju said.

“Allahabad will be connected to 13 cities of the country. In three years, we have added 18 airports,” he said.

The minister said 56 more airports would be added in the country in the next 15 months as the government wanted everyone to experience air travel.
