A distressed father from Uttar Pradesh has made an urgent plea to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to save his daughter, Shahzadi, who faces execution in the UAE. Shabbir, a resident of Goira Mughlai village in Banda district, expressed his fears after his daughter informed him from Abu Dhabi’s Al Batwa jail that she could be hanged any time after September 20.

Shahzadi, 29, has been incarcerated for the alleged murder of a four-month-old child. She was sent to Dubai in November 2021 under the guise of receiving medical treatment, after a Facebook friendship with Uzair, a resident of Agra, who facilitated her travel. While in Dubai, Shahzadi stayed with Uzair’s relatives, including his aunt Nazia, whose son tragically died at just four months and 21 days old. Shahzadi has been accused of the child’s murder, a charge her family vehemently denies.

  • The Investigation Officer stated that the case involves multiple suspects, including Uzair, his uncle Faiz, aunt Nazia, and Nazia’s mother-in-law Anjum Sahana Begum

  • He added that correspondence with the Dubai Embassy in India will be initiated to record statements from both the accused and the victim

Shabbir revealed that his daughter had a facial burn injury from childhood and had worked with a charitable group called ‘Roti Bank of Banda’ during the COVID-19 lockdown. He claims Shahzadi has been wrongfully implicated in the case, which he believes is a setup by Uzair’s family.

In 2023, Shabbir learned about the death sentence and has since been appealing to the Indian government for intervention. On July 15, 2024, an FIR was filed at the Mataundh police station, accusing Uzair and his family of selling Shahzadi into Dubai. However, Shabbir alleges that no action has been taken by the Investigation Officer, Sub Inspector Mohammad Akram, who he suspects is colluding with Uzair.
