The United States has officially opened its student visa application window for the upcoming academic cycle, according to Deputy Spokesperson Mignon Houston of the US State Department. Houston urged aspiring international students to apply promptly while reiterating the importance of using student visas solely for educational purposes, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

In her statement on Wednesday, Houston emphasized that student visas must not be misused for any disruptive activities, including disturbing academic environments or damaging campus infrastructure.

“Each visa decision is also a national security decision,” she said, noting that all reviews are conducted in alignment with US immigration law and national interests

She further added that the United States welcomes students who contribute positively to academic communities and uphold campus values.

Houston also spoke on the broader US-India relationship, calling India an “essential partner in the Indo-Pacific” and confirmed that bilateral trade discussions are ongoing. She highlighted the importance of fair, reciprocal trade relations, aligning with the spirit of the America First framework.

The announcement comes as thousands of students from across the globe, especially India — one of the largest sources of international students in the US — prepare to apply for F-1 and J-1 visas ahead of the fall semester.
