Visa-related relaxations welcomed by TAAI

Even as Asia contributes significantly to various tourism-based economies, the resumption of different visa-related services like Tourist Visas, E-Visas and other categories brings a much-needed change

One of the biggest obstacles faced by the tourism business, especially post-pandemic, has been the non-availability of visas. Even as Asia contributes significantly to various tourism-based economies, the resumption of different visa-related services like Tourist Visas, E-Visas and other categories brings a much-needed change.

Commenting on the resumption of additional categories of visas for Indians by the United States and Malaysia; Jyoti Mayal, President, TAAI said that it was indeed a commendable move. “Scores of Indians visit both countries, US and Malaysia for tourism, business, education, and many other reasons. And, travel trade fraternity, which earns its bread and butter from facilitating ticketing, visas and other arrangements is indeed delighted to hear the news,” she said.

Jay Bhatia, Vice President, TAAI added that TAAI as the apex body of the travel trade fraternity of India had been asking Embassies/High Commissions to resume visas at the earliest. Bhatia said that TAAI had been working to facilitate issues such as acceptance of Indian origin vaccines, issuance of visas, uniform travel protocols or dealing with the airlines.

Bettaiah Lokesh, Hon Secretary General, said that TAAI had been pushing at every level in the government to start issuance of tourist visas. “Indian travellers have had to go through a really tough time due to the non-availability of visas,” Lokesh said.
