Who will be Karnataka Chief Minister as Yediyurappa resigns

In an event to commemorate his second anniversary of the new term, he said he was resigning due to prevailing party rule that those above 75 years of age should resign

After completing two years in office, the Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader BS Yediyurappa resigned from the post of Karnataka Chief Minister on Monday (July 26, 2021).

He submitted his resignation to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot in Bengaluru.

He said he would do his best to bring the party to power in the 2023 assembly elections.

The change had become imminent with developments in the party. The talks of his departure from the post of Chief Minister was going on for long, and in the party circles, it had become imminent that he would be replaced with some more dynamic face .

This was Yediyurappa’s fourth term as Chief Minister of the state, and he resigned without completing his term.

In an event to commemorate his second anniversary of the new term, he said he was resigning due to the prevailing party rule that those above 75 years of age should resign.

He assured the gathering that he would do his level best to bring the party to power in the 2023 assembly elections.

Soon after his resignation, the guessing game has started as to who would be the next chief minister of the state which is going for polls in 2023.

The names doing the round are Murugesh Nirani, Pralhad Joshi, C T Ravi, Basavaraj S Bommai, Basavaraj S Bommai, Arvind Bellad, and Jagadish Shettar.

The names of Assembly Speaker Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri, and Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan are also in the air.
