Children are the symbol of what the future generation would be like. Some of them have exceptional skills in certain fields that earn them the title of ‘Child Prodigy’. Here, we look at 5 children who have Indian roots but settled abroad, making a name for themselves and making India proud.

Bestowed with the title of TIME’s ‘Kid of the Year’, 15-year-old Gitanjali Rao is a Colorado-based Indian-American scientist. She developed a device called Tethys, which measures the level of lead contamination in the water. She has won many awards for her work. She is in the Forbes Under-30 list, EPA President’s Environmental Youth Award winner, and has also been a prolific TED speaker. She was also featured in Marvel’s Hero Project and has made apps to check on opioid addiction as well as cyber safety.

Art is a field where flexibility is always appreciated. Every artist has his own style, and their art is more like a personal story. To get it noticed, however, one requires being extremely skilled and talented, often having to train for years. This was not the case for Advait Kolarkar. Only six years old, he has accomplished what most artists struggle to. He learned to distinguish between different shades of colours even before he turned one, and by the age of two, he had his art put up for sale at the Art2Day gallery, Pune. He was the youngest artist to be exhibited in the Saint John Arts Center, Canada, as well as the youngest to be featured in the prestigious ArtExpo New York. His work has been priced at at least 2000 dollars and he has earned about $23000 till date.

Graduating is one of the biggest milestones in a person’s life. Graduating with ‘summa cum laude’ is a dream. The term translates to ‘with the highest honor’ and that is exactly what it is. At the age of 15, Tanishq Abraham is the youngest ever student to graduate from college in bio-medical engineering, with ‘summa cum laude’ as the icing on the cake. He had developed a machine to calculate the heart rate of burn victims which doesn’t require any physical contact. He has also cracked various math courses at the age of five and is currently planning to pursue a PhD.

Starting your own company is no joke. But at the age of 13, Aadithyan Rajesh took it upon himself and started Trinet Solutions. Although he cannot be an established company owner before turning 18, his organization functions just like a normal company. Aadithyan has been in Dubai since he was 5, the same time around which he first started using a computer. He even created his own application by the age of 9 and is a sought-after TED speaker. He is working with Microsoft and is hoping to conduct projects on iOS as well.

While most children resent mathematics in almost every form, Apoorva is one of those rare students who are extremely passionate about the subject. A resident of San Jose, California, she had been constantly invested in the subject since the age of six and then moved forward to modular mathematics. Her skills got her fame and recognition when she made an appearance on NBC’s ‘Genius Junior’, a game show hosted by actor Neil Patrick Harris where children are tested in various subjects in order to win a cash prize. She has also been a prolific volunteer who has won the President’s Volunteer Award thrice. Other than math, Apoorva is also incredibly skilled in painting and uses her math and artistry as a means to raise funds for charity.
