Follow Health Ministry guidelines till July 31: MHA tells States, UTs

A letter from Ministry of Home Affairs asked the States and Union Territories to relax restrictions in a planned and calibrated manner

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday issued a letter asking the States and Union Territories to consider following the country’s Health Ministry’s targeted and prompt actions for Covid-19 management till July 31, 2021.

Issued under Disaster Management Act for the national directives for COVID-19 management, the letter asked the states to follow the set norms throughout the country till the end of July.

Anyone found violating the norms will be liable to be proceeded against as per Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act. The person would be liable for legal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and other related legal provisions

“All the district magistrates (DM) shall strictly enforce the above measures. For the enforcement of social distancing, State and Union Territory governments may, as far as possible, use the provisions of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” said the MHA’s directive.

Following are the crux of the letter:

  1. Anyone found violating the norms will be liable to be proceeded against as per Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act.

  2. The person would be liable for legal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and other related legal provisions.

  3. In another letter the MHA called the States and Union Territories to start the process of relaxing restrictions in a carefully calibrated manner.
