Toronto police arrest 32-year-old Abdul Ghafoori in connection with the death of 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana
A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder nearly seven months after an Indian woman was found dead at a residence in Toronto, Canadian authorities said.
Abdul Ghafoori was arrested at a Toronto airport on Friday after returning to Canada, according to reports. Police had earlier issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest in connection with the death of 30-year-old Himanshi Khurana.
Toronto Police said officers from the Fugitive Squad and homicide units worked with national and international law enforcement agencies to facilitate his return to Canada. Authorities have not disclosed where Ghafoori had been during the period he was wanted.
The case dates back to December 19, 2025, when police received a report concerning a missing woman in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area of Toronto. Officers searching the area found Khurana dead inside a residence at about 6.30am the following day. Her death was subsequently classified as a homicide.

Following the discovery of Khurana’s body, investigators continued their search for Ghafoori and appealed for information about his whereabouts. His arrest ends months of efforts to locate him and move the case towards court proceedings.
Ghafoori has been charged with first-degree murder and was due to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre following his arrest. The charge has not been tested in court.
The Consulate General of India in Toronto had earlier expressed shock and grief over Khurana’s death and said it was assisting her family in coordination with Canadian authorities.
