189 people booked by CBI for irregularities in Akhilesh Yadav’s Gomti River Project

CBI searches continue as fresh FIR is lodged in Akhilesh Yadav’s Gomti river front project

As many as 189 people, including 16 public servants and 173 private persons, were booked by CBI in the Gomti River Project in connection with alleged irregularities in the Gomti river front development project. Also named as an accused in the case, is a French company, Aquatique Show International, which supplied musical fountains.  According to reports, an agreement of 55.95 lakh Euros was signed between the UP government and the French company. This is the second FIR related to the project in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, that was launched in 2015 by the Samajwadi Party with Akhilesh Yadav as the CM.

It is worth a mention here that the fresh case comes just a few months ahead of the assembly election in UP.

 

This is the second case in connection with the Gomti river project, the recent that was on the basis of findings by the CBI during its preliminary enquiry, officials said.

 

Multiple teams of CBI officials on Monday conducted, sources told India Today.

Searches were conducted at 42 locations — 40 in UP, one each in Rajasthan and Kolkata and the operation is still underway. Searches are also on at the compound of three chief engineers and six superintendent engineers of the project.

This is the second case in connection with the Gomti river project, the recent that was on the basis of findings by the CBI during its preliminary enquiry, officials said.

The first case was lodged by the CBI on November 30, 2017 at the request of the Uttar Pradesh government.

The first FIR said that irregularities were committed in the implementation of “Gomti River Channelisation Project”’ and “Gomti River Front Development” by the Irrigation Department, the Government of UP.

The allegations include, diversion of funds, pooling of tenders for Gomti River Front Development project.
