New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday bid farewell to his predecessor Manmohan Singh and said the former PM will be remembered for , strengthening democracy, a special report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says
Lauding Singh’s contributions to that Rajya Sabha and to the country as prime minister between 2004 and 2014, Modi said, “The way Manmohan Singh ji steered this house and the country, his contributions will surely be remembered when democratic annals of Indian history are discussed.”, says
Modi also hailed the former PM for always making it a point to come and vote in Rajya Sabha proceedings as also in the parliamentary committee elections.
“He came to vote in parliamentary proceedings even in a wheelchair. Whether or not it strengthened someone it surely strengthened democracy,” he said.
The PM bid farewell to Singh, a six term Rajya Sabha MP, praying for his long life and for him to “constantly guide and inspire us.”
Singh, 91, is among 57 MPs retiring in April.
