In preparation for the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, 2024, the Embassy of India in Muscat launched the ‘Marhaban Yoga’ initiative. The inaugural event, held on April 19, featured an exclusive yoga session attended by over 150 enthusiasts from various yoga organizations across Oman.

The International Day of Yoga, recognized by the United Nations, aims to promote the physical and mental benefits of yoga while emphasizing its universal appeal for a healthier world. Under the theme ‘Health, Healing & Harmony,’ Indian Ambassador Amit Narang unveiled plans for the IDY celebration in Oman, building on the success of previous yoga events in the country.

Ambassador Narang, in his address, emphasized the profound significance of yoga as a transformative journey of self-discovery and inner peace.

“Yoga is not just about physical exercise; it’s a holistic approach to well-being. It’s the journey of the self, through the self, to the self,” he remarked, highlighting its potential to foster overall health and harmony in daily life.

With growing interest in yoga among Oman’s diverse communities, the Embassy anticipates a significant turnout for this year’s IDY celebrations, fostering positivity and well-being for all

Health, Healing & Harmony theme underscores the transformative impact of yoga in nurturing holistic well-being. Building on the successes of ‘Muscat Yog Mahotsav’ in 2022 and the ‘Oman Yoga Yatra’ in 2023, the ‘Marhaban Yoga’ aims to further promote the practice of Yoga in Oman as a health discipline.

He exhorted the Indian community to spread the message of Yoga far and wide across the boundaries of communities and nationalities and called upon them to introduce Yoga to their non-Indian friends.

“Our initiative will be successful if each one of us ensure that in the run up to the June 21, one Omani friend comes and does Yoga at least in one session,” he said.

Collaborating with esteemed Yoga organizations in Oman, including Art of Living and ISHA Foundation, the Indian Embassy aims to promote yoga as a discipline for health, harmony, and healing. With growing interest in yoga among Oman’s diverse communities, the Embassy anticipates a significant turnout for this year’s IDY celebrations, fostering positivity and well-being for all.

Acharya Manoranjan, the Yoga teacher at the Embassy, led the yoga session. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to promote ancient yoga wisdom in Oman. Reflecting on the words of Swami Niranjananda Saraswati, Acharya Manoranjan highlighted yoga as a science of right living and a path to inner peace.

“Yoga is a science of right living. This is our responsibility to spread positivity for the humanity, society and whole of the universe. Yoga needs to be included in our lifestyle to enjoy mental and physical wellbeing,” he said.
