In the aftermath of a harrowing robbery on Anzac Day, the proprietors of House of Gold and Diamond Jewellers, a cherished establishment in Auckland, New Zealand, are weighing the possibility of relocating their business to Australia. Navita Shee, sister of the shop’s owner, conveyed the profound shock that has enveloped her family following the unsettling incident on April 25, 2024.

The brazen robbery, captured on CCTV, unfolded swiftly as six masked assailants brandishing hammers and machetes breached the premises of the store situated in Manurewa. The footage revealed the terrifying moments as patrons scrambled for cover, underscoring the rampant sense of insecurity plaguing the community.

Navita Shee lamented the escalation of such crimes across New Zealand, expressing disillusionment with the prevailing state of law and order. Despite promises and efforts by the government, including the National Party-led coalition, to address crime rates, the Shee family finds themselves grappling with the grim reality of vulnerability in their adopted homeland.

As they await insurance assessments and grapple with the aftermath of the unprecedented incident, the Shee family reflects on their journey since immigrating to New Zealand in 2008 and establishing their beloved jewellery store in 2012

The swift and audacious nature of the robbery, concluded within a mere 45 seconds, further underscored the urgency for stringent measures to deter such acts of delinquency. Shee emphasized the need for enhanced legislation, particularly targeting juvenile offenders, whose involvement in criminal activities exacerbates the challenges faced by businesses and communities alike.

Following the robbery, law enforcement authorities swiftly responded, recovering the abandoned vehicle believed to have been used by the perpetrators. However, the path to justice remains fraught with uncertainty, with forensic investigations underway to trace the culprits responsible for the brazen heist.

Despite the ordeal, the House of Gold and Diamond Jewellers reopened its doors to patrons the following day, buoyed by the unwavering support of the community. Navita Shee expressed gratitude for the outpouring of solidarity, acknowledging the resilience of her family in navigating through adversity.

As they await insurance assessments and grapple with the aftermath of the unprecedented incident, the Shee family reflects on their journey since immigrating to New Zealand in 2008 and establishing their beloved jewellery store in 2012. For the first time, they confront the stark reality of vulnerability, prompting contemplation of a new beginning across the Tasman Sea in Australia, where they hope to find a safer haven for their cherished enterprise.
