A new flight service connecting Abu Dhabi, UAE, with Trichy International Airport was inaugurated on Sunday, marking a significant enhancement in air connectivity between the two regions. The service, operated by Indigo Airlines, made its debut with a traditional water cannon salute upon landing at Trichy Airport at 6:40 AM. The inaugural flight carried 173 passengers, while the return flight took off with a full capacity of 186 passengers.
This new service is scheduled to operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—offering increased convenience for travelers, particularly Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from the central districts who frequently travel between the two regions. According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the outbound flight (6E1493) departs Trichy at 7:30 AM, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 10:00 AM. The return flight (6E1494) departs Abu Dhabi at 12:55 AM, reaching Trichy by 6:30 AM.
This development highlights the strategic importance of Trichy as a key hub for international travel, particularly for the NRI community and those working in the UAE
The introduction of this service addresses the growing demand for additional flights between Trichy and the UAE. While Air India Express already operates three weekly flights on this route, the new Indigo service brings the total to seven weekly flights, significantly boosting the international traffic at Trichy Airport. The airport currently handles approximately 1.3 million passengers annually, and the added connectivity is expected to further increase these numbers.
