MP High Court clears the path for NRI quota PG admissions, ensuring adherence to national guidelines

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has upheld the reservation of seats under the NRI quota for postgraduate medical admissions in the state. The decision affirms the Directorate of Medical Education’s (DME) adherence to established guidelines, paving the way for the allocation of 152 seats under the NRI quota as per schedule, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Court Clearance Brings Relief for NRI Aspirants

The counseling process will proceed in two phases, beginning with seat allocation on January 8, followed by college-level admissions from January 9 to 13. Detailed guidelines regarding documentation and verification have been published on the DME’s official website.

Colleges are mandated to verify NRI status documents meticulously before confirming admissions. Any discrepancies in documentation will result in the immediate cancellation of the admission.

Key Court Observations and DME Preparations

  • The court dismissed a petitioner’s contention that the NRI quota should be restricted to clinical subjects, stating that the current allocation system aligns with national guidelines

  • It emphasized that the 15% NRI quota in private medical colleges is legally sound and must be implemented as planned

Dr. A.K. Shrivastava from the DME confirmed that preparations are underway for a smooth counseling process. Eligible candidates must present their documents, including proof of NRI status, at designated centers for verification. The process will be stringent to maintain transparency.

A Milestone for NRI Medical Admissions

The first round of counseling was temporarily halted due to the legal challenge, but with the court’s decision, the admission process can now proceed without further delays. This verdict provides clarity and relief to numerous NRI candidates awaiting confirmation of their admission status.

The judgment sets a precedent for future NRI quota allocations in Madhya Pradesh medical admissions. The DME has assured strict compliance with all guidelines to ensure fairness throughout the process.
