Double-Decker and HOHO bus services launched ahead of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi unveils the State’s first-ever Double-Decker buses, Hop-On Hop-Off services, and SJTA E-Bus initiative for sustainable urban mobility

In a significant step towards improving urban transport in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday inaugurated the State’s first Double-Decker bus service, Hop-On Hop-Off (HOHO) buses, and Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) E-Bus services at the Mo Bus Depot in Gadakana, Bhubaneswar, reported sambadenglish.com.

These initiatives align with Odisha’s ‘Viksit Odisha’ vision to create a greener and more efficient transport network, aiming to reduce congestion and carbon emissions while enhancing connectivity across key cities.

Details of the Services

The newly launched services include:

  • Five Double-Decker Buses: Operating across Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, and Khordha, providing residents and visitors a unique and comfortable travel experience
  • Ten HOHO Buses: Designed for tourists, these buses cover major attractions in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, offering flexible travel with a one-day pass priced at ₹200
  • 25 SJTA E-Buses: Focused on eco-friendly transport within Puri and connecting to Bhubaneswar, these buses are wheelchair-accessible and cater to pilgrims, tourists, and locals

Special Launch Features

The Double-Decker buses will operate as express services, with fares ranging from ₹30 to ₹170. The HOHO service offers an introductory waiver on the ₹50 card fee until January 31, 2025.

During the event, the Chief Minister personally handed over tickets to wheelchair passengers, emphasizing inclusivity. He also joined a ride on the Double-Decker bus to Janata Maidan along with Cabinet Ministers.

The launch event saw the presence of prominent figures, including Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gonda, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, and other senior officials.
