Visit aims to strengthen India’s ties with the Indo-Pacific nations, aligning with India’s Act East Policy
Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, will visit the Philippines, Republic of Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from January 14 to 21, 2025. The visit emphasizes India’s commitment to fostering closer ties with Indo-Pacific nations under the Act East Policy.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Diaspora Engagement
During his visit to the Philippines on January 14, Margherita will meet with the country’s leadership and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Centre for Peace Education, Miriam College, Manila. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of India-Philippines diplomatic relations. He will also engage with the Indian diaspora in the Philippines, reflecting India’s strong ties with the region.
Participation in Pacific Island Leadership Events
On January 16, Margherita will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Surangel Whipps Jr. as the President of Palau for his second term. The visit includes discussions on ongoing development projects by India in Palau and meetings with the country’s leadership.
Historic Visit to the Federated States of Micronesia
The Minister will visit FSM from January 18, marking the first-ever ministerial-level visit from India to this nation. The agenda includes high-level meetings with FSM’s leadership to explore new avenues of collaboration.
Strengthening Indo-Pacific Partnerships
The visit reinforces India’s dedication to its Act East Policy and vision for the Indo-Pacific. It builds upon the outcomes of the 3rd Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023, and aims to deepen India’s relationships with these Pacific nations.
