Jinson Anto Charles, the first Indian-origin minister in Australia, met his childhood idol, Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty, during his visit to Kochi. A long-time fan of the superstar, Jinson shared his excitement, reminiscing about his younger days when he would throw paper confetti in theatres while watching Mammootty’s films. “Still the same fanboy…” he said, cherishing the moment, reported mathrubhumi.com.

Despite a packed schedule, Jinson ensured he met Mammootty before leaving India

Returning to India for the first time since taking office, Jinson had a hectic itinerary, attending meetings in Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram, along with receptions in his hometown, Pala. However, before departing, he made it a priority to visit Mammootty on the set of his upcoming film in Kochi.

Their conversation extended beyond cinema, with Mammootty inquiring about Qantas, Australia’s largest airline. He asked whether a direct flight from Kochi to Australia would benefit Malayalis and whether the government could take steps to make it happen.

Mammootty receives an official invitation from the Australian government

As Minister for Cinema and other portfolios, Jinson presented Mammootty with an official invitation from the Australian government, inviting him to visit the country.

Their bond dates back to 2007, when Mammootty launched the ‘Kazcha’ free eye care program in collaboration with Angamaly Little Flower Hospital. At the time, Jinson was a nursing student and one of the leading volunteers. He later became actively involved in the Care and Share International Foundation, founded by Mammootty, further strengthening their connection.
