As many as 487 illegal Indian migrants are likely on the US government’s ‘final removal list,’ the Centre confirmed on Friday, just days after a deportation flight carrying 104 Indians landed in Amritsar, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented data in the Rajya Sabha, highlighting fluctuating deportation numbers between 2009 and 2025.

The lowest recorded deportations were in 2025 (104), while the highest was in 2019 (2,042). Between 2009 and 2015, the numbers remained stable, ranging from 515 to 799, peaking at 708 in 2015.

  • On Wednesday, a US C-17 Globemaster military aircraft landed in India with deportees primarily from Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab

  • Reports revealed that the deported individuals were shackled with chains and handcuffs during their return journey

  • The US government reinforced its strict stance by releasing visuals of deported Indians, warning, “If you cross illegally, you will be removed.”

A spokesperson for the US Embassy in New Delhi emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration laws for national security and public safety.

US Embassy spokesperson Christopher Elms stated on Thursday that the country is committed to executing immigration laws against all inadmissible and removable aliens.
