A family’s heartbreaking ordeal turns into a story of hope thanks to the selfless generosity of an NRI businessman
A family in Kerala’s Parappachal, Kasaragod, returned from a hospital visit to find their home locked and seized by the Kerala State Cooperative Bank over an unpaid loan.
Their belongings and furniture were left scattered outside, leaving them shocked and helpless, reportednewskarnataka.com.
Generous NRI Steps In to Help the Family Reclaim Their Home
The affected family, including 70-year-old Janaki, her son Vijesh TP, daughter-in-law Vijina, and their two children, had no place to stay and were forced to sleep outside in their courtyard. They set up a makeshift kitchen to survive the night. Vijesh recalled, “We returned around 6 pm to see a bank notice pasted on our wall. The house was sealed.”

The distressing situation was widely covered by the media, which caught the attention of Unnikrishnan Nair, an NRI businessman from Cherthala, Alappuzha

Moved by the family’s plight, Nair generously stepped in to settle the outstanding loan amount
Family’s Struggle to Repay Loan and the Relief They Received
In 2013, Vijesh had borrowed Rs 2 lakh to start a small business. However, a fall in 2015 left him with a fractured thighbone, preventing him from continuing his work as a coconut plucker. Although he had repaid Rs 37,000, the loan balance had ballooned to Rs 6.5 lakh due to accumulated interest and penalties.
Thanks to Nair’s prompt financial assistance, the bank halted the recovery actions, and the family was able to reclaim their home by Thursday evening. Vijesh, overwhelmed with gratitude, said, “We didn’t know him, yet he came forward and saved us.”
