Lovpreet Singh, a Canada-based NRI, faces charges for allegedly orchestrating a shooting at a Punjab resident’s home
In a serious criminal case unfolding in Punjab, the Nakodar Sadar police have registered an FIR against Lovpreet Singh, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) from Nangal village in Gurdaspur district, for his alleged involvement in a firing incident that endangered human life.
Currently settled in Canada, Lovpreet Singh stands accused of hiring gangsters to open fire at the home of Amarjit Singh, a resident of Kullar village, reported tribuneindia.com.
According to the complaint filed, the shooting took place on Saturday, leaving the main gate riddled with bullet holes and damaging a vehicle parked inside the premises. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhpal Singh confirmed the charges against Lovpreet, adding that the attack was premeditated and part of a larger criminal conspiracy.
The NRI has been booked under multiple criminal sections, including the Arms Act, after gangsters allegedly hired by him fired at a house in Punjab’s Nakodar region
The case has been registered under Sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Sections 25 of the Arms Act.
The investigation, led by ASI Jaspal Singh, in-charge of Uggi police post, is actively pursuing leads to uncover the full extent of Lovpreet Singh’s role in the conspiracy. Authorities are also looking into the network of gangsters allegedly hired for the shooting, while efforts are underway to trace communications and financial transactions linked to the case.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the involvement of overseas-based NRIs in local criminal activities and the growing use of hired shooters in property and personal disputes across Punjab.
