The 20th India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) took place in New Delhi on 8 May 2025, co-chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Iran’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abbas Araghchi, marking a key step in strengthening bilateral relations across strategic sectors.
Both nations condemn terrorism and sign new cooperation MoUs during high-level talks in Delhi
The discussions spanned the full range of bilateral cooperation—including trade, economic collaboration, healthcare, agriculture, connectivity, and cultural exchanges. Special emphasis was placed on regional stability and mutual support in multilateral platforms.
One of the key points of discussion was the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian side provided insights into the cross-border linkages of the incident, and both countries jointly condemned terrorism in all its forms, advocating for greater regional coordination in combating extremist threats.
The meeting also resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Medical Products Regulation and the Implementation of the Bilateral Agreement on Customs Cooperation, aimed at boosting regulatory alignment and trade facilitation.
Additionally, both sides agreed on a humanitarian framework to address matters concerning prisoners, seafarers, fishermen, and students. The commitment to enhancing cooperation in international forums was also reaffirmed.
During his visit, Dr. Araghchi met with President Droupadi Murmu and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, further underlining the diplomatic importance of the engagement.
