India has gifted 15 electric vehicles to Nepal to support the organisation of ‘Sagarmatha Sambad’, a global dialogue on climate change and mountain ecosystems. The handover took place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, as part of India’s continued commitment to regional environmental cooperation and sustainable mobility, reported thehindu.com.

The Sagarmatha Sambad, named after Mount Everest (Sagarmatha in Nepali), is Nepal’s flagship initiative for convening global stakeholders to discuss climate resilience, particularly in mountainous and ecologically sensitive zones.

The electric vehicles are expected to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the summit while enhancing logistical convenience for delegates.

The EVs will aid Nepal’s preparations for its landmark climate summit, reinforcing India’s support for clean energy in the Himalayan region

The vehicles were formally handed over in Kathmandu by Indian officials, who reiterated India’s dedication to bolstering Nepal’s sustainability efforts. The initiative aligns with both countries’ shared climate goals and highlights India’s proactive role in climate diplomacy and technology sharing in South Asia.

The summit is expected to attract participation from international climate experts, policymakers, and environmental activists, with electric mobility serving as a key visual statement of intent.
