India to field its largest-ever contingent at a Diamond League event in Doha, led by Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra
Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will spearhead a four-member Indian team at the Doha leg of the prestigious Diamond League Meeting on May 16, 2025, marking the country’s highest-ever representation at a single Diamond League event, reported by sports.ndtv.com.
Chopra, who won the Doha Diamond League title in 2023 with a throw of 88.67m and finished second in 2024 (88.36m), will be joined by fellow javelin thrower Kishore Jena, who placed ninth last year with 76.31m. The men’s javelin field will feature top global names including two-time world champion Anderson Peters (Grenada), 2024 winner Jakub Vadlejch (Czech Republic), Julian Weber and Max Dehning (Germany), Julius Yego (Kenya), and Roderick Genki Dean (Japan).
Chopra returns alongside Jena, while Gulveer Singh and Parul Chaudhary debut in their events
In addition to the javelin duo, Gulveer Singh, India’s national record holder in men’s 5000m, will make his Diamond League debut, while Parul Chaudhary, another national record holder, will compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase.
With Chopra leading the charge and three other high-potential athletes in the mix, this outing is being viewed as a key preparatory platform ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024, and a significant moment for Indian athletics on the international circuit.
