Advisory urges Indian students to follow immigration rules, warns of deportation and visa bans
The United States Embassy in India has issued a fresh advisory reminding Indian students and travelers to strictly comply with US immigration laws. The Embassy warned that overstays or violations could lead to deportation, visa revocation, and even long-term bans on entering the United States, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
In a post on X, the Embassy urged travelers to check their authorized period of stay using Form I-94, available ati94.cbp.dhs.gov, and ensure timely departure.
Breaking US laws or overstaying visas can result in deportation, revocation, and future ineligibility for US visas
The statement specifically cautioned students: “Breaking US laws can have serious consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or violate any laws, your visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future US visas. Follow the rules and don’t jeopardize your travel. A US visa is a privilege, not a right.”
The advisory comes at a time when Indian students form one of the largest international student groups in the US, making compliance with visa conditions crucial.
With a record surge in the number of Indian students pursuing higher education in the US, the Embassy reiterated that maintaining lawful status is essential to safeguard academic and career opportunities abroad. Officials emphasized that while the US remains a top destination for Indian students, abiding by immigration regulations is non-negotiable.
