Palm Bay council member faces backlash after calling for mass deportation of Indians from the United States
Chandler Langevin, a city council member from Palm Bay, Florida, is under fire for a series of social media posts calling for the deportation of Indians living in the United States. His remarks have drawn sharp criticism from immigrant communities, civil rights groups, and fellow politicians, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated October 18, Langevin claimed that “even conservative Hindus” were beginning to support his stance against immigration from India. “Many are coming around to realize that mass immigration into America, even from India, is hurting them as well,” he wrote, adding, “I’d rather have a few Shashis that want to save America than hordes of Islamists, commies, cartels, and indentured servants stealing American jobs.”
The Palm Bay City Council voted 3-2 to formally censure Langevin over his inflammatory comments, marking an official rebuke that, while symbolic, reflects strong disapproval of his anti-immigrant rhetoric
The remarks have been widely condemned as xenophobic and racially charged. Advocacy groups and political leaders have called for an apology, with some urging Langevin to resign. Critics said his statements echoed white nationalist rhetoric and risked inciting hostility against South Asian and immigrant communities.
Langevin, who was elected to the Palm Bay City Council in 2024, identifies himself online as a “Christian, family man, Conservative, Navy Corpsman (FMF), and Jeffersonian.” He has previously been noted for his far-right views on immigration and national identity.
Despite mounting criticism, Langevin has refused to retract his statements, instead defending them as “truthful” and claiming they are necessary to “protect American workers.”
