RTA invites local and international businesses to set up shops across the city’s transport network
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened retail and commercial leasing opportunities inside metro and tram stations, allowing businesses to operate within the emirate’s busy transport hubs. The initiative aims to boost economic activity, improve commuter convenience, and strengthen public-private partnerships, building on previous successful collaborations with private firms, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Interested businesses can apply online through the RTA portal by visiting rta.ae, navigating to the Business and Corporate section, and accessing the “Invest with RTA” page. Listings provide details on rent, area, electricity provisions, and permissible business types, along with 360-degree digital views of each unit. Applicants can register their interest by logging in with an RTA account and submitting proposals, with further inquiries directed via the contact information on the website.
Businesses can now tap into high-footfall metro and tram stations, enhancing both visibility and customer reach
The latest leasing opportunities include retail outlets along the Route 2020 extension, serving areas such as Jebel Ali, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investment Park, and the Expo 2020 site. The RTA has allocated 40 retail outlets spanning 15,860 square feet and five sales kiosks across these stations. Route 2020, spanning 15 kilometres, is designed for over 270,000 residents with a capacity of 46,000 riders per hour in both directions. Daily ridership is expected to start at 125,000 and grow to 275,000 by 2030. Expo Station alone anticipates 35,000 weekday visitors and 47,000 on weekends, while Jumeirah Golf Estates Station can accommodate up to 250,000 riders per day.
RTA officials highlighted that station retail outlets enhance commuter experience while stimulating local businesses. Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency, said, “Offering retail outlets in Route 2020 is in line with RTA’s endeavours to stimulate domestic trade and inject fresh growth prospects. The success of retail outlets on the Red and Green Lines stems from the excellence of the Dubai Metro project.” Since the metro’s launch in 2009, retail units within stations have proven successful, and the Route 2020 expansion aims to continue this model and attract private investment.
