Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Oman in December 2025 marked a milestone in India–Oman relations, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. During the three-day visit, Modi’s engagement with the Indian community and Omani leadership highlighted both historical bonds and future opportunities for collaboration.
Thousands of Indian expatriates gathered in Muscat for the ‘Maitri Parv’ event, waving national flags, chanting patriotic slogans, and participating in vibrant cultural performances.
“Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Oman coinciding the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties, yielded significant positive outcomes, including the signing of a landmark Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) that promises to boost bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation in sectors like energy, manufacturing, and technology,” said Aftab Patel, CEO of Al Omaniya Financial Services in Oman.
“PM Modi highlighted India’s robust economic growth and global achievements, such as manufacturing prowess and space missions, while praising the Indian diaspora as the ‘biggest custodian’ of centuries-old bonds and a living example of coexistence and cooperation. The visit energized the Indian community, with thousands gathering at the ‘Maitri Parv’ event in Muscat to welcome him with patriotic chants and cultural performances, leaving members feeling inspired, blessed, and motivated to contribute further to India’s progress and strengthen ties with Oman,” he said.

During his visit, PM Modi witnessed cultural showcases and personally interacted with the diaspora, reflecting his commitment to connecting with Indians abroad. His arrival at Muscat International Airport was met with a ceremonial Guard of Honour, led by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, symbolizing the warmth and depth of the bilateral relationship.
The visit also achieved tangible diplomatic milestones, most notably the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) aimed at boosting trade, investment, and cooperation in energy, manufacturing, technology, and other strategic sectors. Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s growing economic and technological capabilities, citing achievements in manufacturing and space exploration.
High-level discussions between Modi and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq covered trade, energy security, defence, agriculture, technology, and cultural exchanges, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest. India and Oman’s collaboration in maritime security, energy, and regional stability underscores Oman’s strategic importance to India in the Gulf region.
