The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, Eddy Wardoyo, recently visited the headquarters of the Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (AP Chambers) in Vijayawada, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic ties between Indonesia and Andhra Pradesh. The visit featured detailed discussions with office-bearers and members of AP Chambers, focusing on expanding bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

During the interaction, Wardoyo emphasized Indonesia’s strong interest in deepening engagement with Andhra Pradesh, noting the State’s proven strengths in agriculture, food processing, aquaculture, and manufacturing. He highlighted that both regions share complementary capabilities and market needs, creating substantial untapped potential for mutually beneficial trade growth.

  • A key area identified for collaboration was secondary and tertiary processing in the food processing sector

  • With both Indonesia and Andhra Pradesh being major producers of agricultural commodities, value addition through advanced processing was seen as an opportunity to enhance export competitiveness and meet evolving consumer demand in regional and global markets

  • Value-added aqua products, palm oil-related industries, and manufacturing were also discussed as promising sectors for cooperation.

The Consul General informed participants that the Indonesian government actively supports Indian exporters by providing market intelligence and facilitating business matchmaking with Indonesian companies. He also drew attention to Indonesia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which offer attractive incentives, including zero import and export duties, aimed at encouraging foreign investment and trade. These facilitative measures, he noted, could significantly lower entry barriers for businesses from Andhra Pradesh seeking to access the Indonesian market.

Both sides discussed the importance of organizing structured business-to-business matchmaking programs to accelerate trade flows and convert interest into tangible partnerships. The possibility of conducting trade in local currencies, including rupee-based transactions, was also explored as a positive development that could reduce transaction costs and improve ease of doing business.

AP Chambers expressed its readiness to play a proactive role in advancing these discussions. The federation indicated that it would identify around 20 interested enterprises from Andhra Pradesh to explore concrete business opportunities with Indonesian counterparts and take forward sector-specific engagements.
