The MEA said the visit offers both countries a valuable opportunity to review their growing partnership and set a clear direction for cooperation that benefits both sides
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Kuala Lumpur on an official visit to Malaysia from February 7 to 8, following an invitation from Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
This will be Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to Malaysia and his first since the two countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024. The visit is being seen as an important step in taking the India–Malaysia relationship to the next level.
-
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will hold detailed bilateral talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim
-
The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of issues, including trade and investment, defence and security cooperation, maritime safety, and emerging areas such as digital services and financial technology
-
Both leaders are also likely to review progress made since the partnership upgrade and outline priorities for the future
A key highlight of the visit will be the 10th India–Malaysia CEO Forum, which will bring together leading business figures from both countries. The forum aims to boost commercial ties, encourage new investments, and explore opportunities in sectors such as energy, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology.
Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to meet members of the Indian community in Malaysia, as well as industry and business representatives. Malaysia is home to nearly 2.9 million people of Indian origin, making it the third-largest Indian diaspora in the world. Their presence has played a vital role in strengthening cultural, social, and economic links between the two nations.
India and Malaysia share deep historical and cultural connections that date back centuries. In recent years, cooperation has expanded across education, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
