Stage is set for the first Himalayan Film Festival (THFF). The Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh will host Festival from September 24 to 28 at Leh in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals, Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Padma Angmo, Secretary, Information, Ladakh, announced the dates and THFF venue during a meeting convened to discuss preparations and other issues with the officials of Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Leh and Kargil. The venue, according to her, would promote Ladakh as an attractive film destination.
All the Himalyan states will take part in the Festival, as films from Assam, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh will be showcased. Besides there will be slot for selected Indian panorama films during the festival.

“Master classes and In -conversation sessions with renowned film personalities aiming to impart necessary skills and networking opportunities to budding as well as established filmmakers will also be organized during the festival,” said a DPIR press release.
“There will also be a competition section for short films and documentaries to recognize talented film-makers in the Himalayan region of India, connect to the sparsely located film-making community of the region and encourage fresh talent,” the release said.
The Festival, according to Padma Angmo, will be a platform to promote aspiring local filmmakers and to showcase Ladakh as an attractive film destination.
