Gulf countries introduce faster dispute resolution systems for migrant workers

Analysts note that improving worker protections can enhance the region’s reputation as a destination for foreign labour

Doha — Gulf labour authorities have introduced new mechanisms to accelerate dispute resolution for migrant workers, aiming to improve protections and ensure faster handling of workplace grievances.

The updated systems include digital platforms that allow workers to file complaints related to wages, working conditions and contract violations. Authorities say the changes are designed to increase transparency and reduce processing times.

Indian workers, who make up a significant portion of the migrant workforce in the region, are expected to benefit from the reforms

Labour experts say faster dispute resolution is critical in addressing common issues such as delayed salary payments and contract disputes.

Worker advocacy groups have welcomed the move but stress the importance of effective implementation and awareness among workers.

Officials say the reforms are part of broader efforts to align labour policies with international standards.
